We’re always looking for ways to solicit feedback on our programs to improve them for future learners. Recently, we sat down for a chat with one of our recent graduates of the Virtual Postgraduate Certificate Program, Rita, to ask her for insights on the program through her own eyes!
Thanks for chatting with us, Rita! Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current role.
Thank you for having me! My name is Nubega Rita Forsac. I recently completed Parexel Academy’s Virtual Postgraduate Certificate Program in Clinical Trials Research. Before diving into clinical trials, I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Microbiology and Parasitology from the University of Buea in Cameroon.
I currently work as an office manager, which has helped me with my organizational and multitasking abilities. While I enjoy my role, my true passion lies in clinical trials. I am actively applying for positions in this field, excited to use what I’ve learned and make a meaningful impact in healthcare.
What sparked your interest in clinical research?
My interest in clinical research was profoundly personal and driven by my family’s experiences. Growing up, my mother faced numerous health challenges, and it was difficult to see her struggle with various medical issues. Her health journey made me realize how crucial it is to work to develop effective treatments. I wanted to be part of that process, to contribute to research that could improve lives and offer hope to others facing similar challenges.
What drew you to apply for Parexel Academy’s Virtual Postgraduate Certificate Program?
I was drawn to Parexel Academy’s Virtual Postgraduate Certificate Program in Clinical Trials Research for several reasons. First and foremost, a friend recommended it because I was looking for a program that offered comprehensive, practical training in clinical trials. The virtual format was appealing, allowing me to balance my current role and life priorities with the flexibility of learning online around my existing commitments.
What topics covered in the program did you find most valuable for your career?
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as ICH-GCP guidelines was indispensable. This training ensured I am well-versed in compliance standards and regulatory processes, which is essential for ensuring that trials are conducted ethically and legally. Additionally, the module on data management provided a comprehensive overview of how to handle and analyze clinical trial data. I gained valuable insights into the entire data lifecycle – from data collection and entry to cleaning, validation, and analysis. The whole program was full of helpful information, but these areas left me feeling the most confident in my skills.
In what ways do you believe the vPGC has helped you in your professional life?
The program enhanced my knowledge and skills, providing me with a deep understanding of all aspects of clinical trials, which has equipped me with the skills needed to excel in this field. By mastering topics like clinical monitoring and data management, I’m more confident in my ability to handle the responsibilities associated with clinical trials, which has resulted in a stronger resume and has made me a more competitive candidate for roles in clinical trial research.
Additionally, the program offers the chance to connect with industry professionals and fellow students. These networking opportunities have broadened my professional circle and provided insights into the industry that I would not have gained otherwise.
What advice would you give to those considering if the vPGC is right for them?
Course materials are easy to assimilate and understand. If you’re worried about the content being too difficult, rest assured that Parexel Academy has made the content as engaging and understandable as possible. It still requires dedication, and you’ll need to commit the time and effort to complete the coursework, but I found the experience exciting and absorbing.
Take time to assess your long-term career aspirations. If you’re passionate about clinical research and want to work in this field, the vPGC program offers knowledge and skills that can seriously enhance your career prospects. If you’ve been in clinical research for a long time but want to keep your knowledge base up to date, the vPGC is an excellent choice for you, as well. By the end of the course, you’ll be current with the latest regulations and best practices.
If you are considering taking the vPGC, you are making the right decision. I enjoyed the program’s flexibility and the robust support from mentors and experts. Every course is taught in English, which makes it suitable for a wide range of people to fit in without language barriers. I’m grateful to the instructors and staff at Parexel Academy for facilitating this experience, and I can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned in a role with clinical research!
